1.Hello Charlotte, how long have you been photographing weddings and how did you get started?

I started out about 7 years ago by assisting well known and respected wedding photographers. Initially I started working for free to get a range of experience before becoming a paid second photographer. Once I felt confident in my knowledge of a range of situations a wedding can present (and believe me there were some strange situations I encountered!), I decided to go it alone and I haven’t looked back! I absolutely love working for myself in an industry I adore.

2. Have you got favourite wedding venue that you have photographed at?

This is really hard as I have so many that I love. If I really had to choose it would be Northbrook Park in Surrey – the setting, the rooms, the indulgence of it all. I love it!

3. What or who inspires you in wedding photography?

I could say my husband as he is a respected documentary wedding photographer but I’m afraid it may go to his head and we can’t have that! However, its true and I still love looking through his pictures when he comes back from a job. My father in law is a world renowned, multi award winning photojournalist and I respect him greatly for what he has achieved. His photography is second to none and I aspire to be as well respected as he is.

4. If you could give a bride one piece of advice when looking for a wedding photographer what would that be?

Make a selection of some wedding photographers you like. Look through their websites and blogs and try to see a variety of pictures from the same wedding to look for consistency. When communicating with your photographer, make sure you ask (I have put my own answers in brackets):

Do I get full printing rights with my images? (My clients always receive the right to print their pictures when and where they like).

Will I receive all of the edited images from the day? (My clients always get all of the images taken, there is no limit. Some photographers do give a numerical limit so check this!).

Will you be the photographer I get on the day? Check that the photographer you meet or communicate with will be the photographer attending your wedding rather than someone they employ (My clients always get me – lucky them!).

Will you photograph formal pictures as well as reportage photography? (I do a mixture of both, depending on what the couple request but some photographers will not).

How soon should I book you? (I usually get booked about  6-12 months before their wedding, but I often get last minute bookings too).

5. Have you ever had and disasters when photographing a wedding?

I managed to break my flash last year at a wedding by dropping it. Luckily I always carry spare equipment so it was fine and the couple never knew 

6. Do you consider yourself to have a particular style?

Yes definitely and I hope that people see this in my pictures. I am a through and through reportage photographer. I love to capture moments in a wedding. This is not to say that I do not do formal photography too, of course I do but my natural style is documentary or reportage as its also known.

7. Do you only cover wedding photography in Brighton and Sussex?

In a word, no. I cover weddings throughout the UK as I love to travel and it means I get to see a range of wedding venues and meet a huge amount of people which is great. Last year I covered weddings in Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Kent, Essex and Dorset. I have also covered a wedding in Spain which was amazing.

8. If asked, what advice what you give to a wedding photographer starting out?

Invest in good equipment! It really does pay off. 

Shoot for free for other photographers as an assistant.

Constantly look at other wedding photographers work, the angles and the composition to help develop your own style.

9. Do you adapt your style for themed weddings?

Sort of. I listen to what couples would like from their pictures and and more importantly what they don’t like. I then tailor my photography to this whilst still retaining my own style of reportage photography.

10. Finally...what are your goals for the coming year?

To double my bookings from last year (I’m almost there) and to keep developing relationships with other wedding suppliers which is why recently I've become addicted to Twitter.

What do I need to do to book you for my Wedding Day?

​To secure your booking day, you will need to complete a booking form which will be sent to you by email and you will be asked for a £50 deposit to secure my services for your Wedding Day in my diary, to be paid by cheque, or electronic bank transfer. Other members of the bridal party you will be asked for a £20 deposit for each person. Please note that due to the number of enquiries I receive I can not hold the date until a deposit is received. How long does a Try Out Session take?

It can take anywhere from 2 hours upwards, depending on how many looks you want to try out. The Try Out Session is specially designed to focus just on you, so I never limit a Bride to a certain length of time for this session as it's really important to me that you are happy and that we get the look perfectly suited to you, however long it takes.

How long will my bridal makeup take on the Wedding Day?

I always advice approximately 2 hours. Ideally your makeup will be one of the last things you do before putting on your dress and I will stay until you are about to leave to ensure that you walk down the aisle looking fresh and radiant; ready for your big moment!

What products do you use?​

My kit contains mainly MAC and Bobbi Brown and luxury brands including Guerlain and YSL as well as other professional products such as  Bioderma. I like to keep up to date with the latest products and am always updating my kit with new finds.

Can you stay for the whole day if I need you?

Where does the Try Out Session happen?

The session will take place in the comfort of your own home or a destination of your choice. I'm based in Brighton and am currently a mobile service, please read my travel policy to see the areas I cover.

Should I have my hair done before my makeup?

Ideally yes, it's best  to have your makeup done after your hair is finished because sprays and heated appliances can sometimes interfere with the final look.

How long should I allow for my bridal party to have their makeup done?

I would advise between 45 minutes and an hour.

1. Can you suggest which flowers will suit the style of my big day?

A. This will depend upon the theme that you are choosing such as Traditional, Vintage, Funky, etc and we would spend the time at our consultation looking at the colours and flower types that you like most. I would suggest that you first Google colours of flowers and see what attracts you the most then when we meet we have a starting point of ideas.

2. Have you worked at my wedding venue before?

A. We have worked at most of the venues in and around Brighton but tend to keep within 20 miles to ensure a personal efficient service

3. Can I see examples of your previous work?

A.  A portfolio of our work is kept at the shop for Brides to see the quality of our floristry work and a brief example can be seen on our website on our weddings page to give you a flavour.

4. Can you advise me about which flowers to choose to suit my colour scheme?

A. We will always give you advice on colours, but these again is best approached by having an idea by doing a Google search on flower colours and see what types of flowers there are and which ones attract you.

5. Which flowers will be in season on my wedding date?

A. Once the date is known to us we would then advise you which flowers would be best for the time of year but as the world develops more and more flowers are becoming available all the year around.

6. Which flowers and arrangements are popular at the moment?

A. Traditional style of white and red roses are making quite a comeback at present along with teardrop bouquets, but there is still quite a variety dependent upon budget and venue, but keep an eye on trending websites and magazines.

7. Can you suggest flowers and size to suit my dress?

A. Yes we can make suggestions at the consultation stage and can show examples to give you an idea how they all look together.

8. Can you transport my ceremony flowers to the reception/Church and do you set them up for us?

A. Yes this is normal to transport flowers to different locations such as Bouquets for Bride and Bridesmaids, then buttonholes to the Groom, with ceremony flowers to the church and reception flowers for the venue. If the arrangements need to be set up we can do this for you, but if the arrangements are simple the venue staff can do this for you

9. What would happen if I had to change my arrangement at last minute?

A. Normally this does not tend to happen unless it’s a marquee in the middle of a field that is under water, but when the balance is due that is when any changes are ironed out to make things go as smoothly as possible. However, if the unforeseen happens we would work with you to make your day as special as you want it to be.

10. Will you do a mock-up of my chosen arrangements?

A. At the consultation we will put colours and flower types together to give you a far better idea about your choices and that they work well together, but if you want mock ups these can also be arranged.

A very quick post with a few pictures from a Bandstand wedding.
